In the natural habitat, gerbils live in dry climates, in large, deep burrows, which they dig themselves. Besides, gerbil also love gnawing and jumping. The best gerbil habitat should be set up with accessories and toys, which will help mimic the gerbil’s natural environment, keep you gerbil healthy, encourage them to do exercise and entertaining your gerbil.
#1 Exercise wheel
This entertaining and beneficial wheel is a good idea to keep your healthy. The appropriate exercise wheel size is usually around 8-9 inches in diameter. When selecting an exercise wheel, avoid slat style wheel for gerbils as it can get their tails caught in them.
The safe exercise wheels are enclosed and without gaps between the wheel’s rungs. Instead, use a wheel with a solid wooden, metal, or plastic running track. Wheels can be purchased separately or come with a cage.
These little guys love to chew and tunnel and therefore. Toys are a must and should essential for your pets’ innate desire. Plain cardboard, wicker baskets, or branches from apple, cherry, and oak trees can make the great chew toys for your gerbils. Place multiple chewing toys throughout the cage.
